Per-device cost, profit and capital show only to people allowed to see costs; financial reports use a separate permission. Owners can set it per person.

The cost and profit of each device are things shops often don't want everyone to see, so they sit behind the View cost and profit permission. People without it don't see true cost, profit or capital tied up. The shop's overall profit in financial reports uses a separate permission, View financial reports.

Who sees costs by default

The roles holding View cost and profit are: Owner, Store Admin, Manager, Supervisor-Approver, Appraiser, Inventory staff, Accountant, Auditor. Counter roles such as cashiers, and technicians, don't see costs by default.

What's hidden without the permission

Where What you don't see
Item page The true cost card, the cost ledger, net profit, margin and ROI
Suggested price on the item page The profit-at-this-price line
Reports Columns and totals that show cost, capital tied up or expected profit
Overview Capital tied up on the stock age and money cards
Store Intelligence Cards that reveal cost, such as priced below cost
Repairs The cost totals in the repair list

What you can still see

  • Target sell prices and the selling price on the bill

  • The price you're paying and the expected profit on the buying screen, which uses the price you're typing

  • The valuation panel, if you may see valuations

Letting someone see costs, or not

The owner or an admin can change permissions per person on the team page, adding or removing cost visibility without changing their role. See Adjust one person's permissions, and what each role can do in Store roles: what each can and cannot do.

Frequently asked questions

Can cashiers see the shop's profit?

Not by default. The cashier role can't see costs or financial reports, but still sees selling prices and the expected profit of a purchase they're entering.
