A bill discount above 5% of the total (by default) must be entered by someone with the discount permission, or the sale isn't saved.
- Who can do this:
- Owner, Store Admin, Manager, Cashier (role defaults; the owner can change them)
A shop can cap the bill discount. By default, a bill discount above 5% of the total must be recorded by someone with the Give discounts above the limit permission. If the person recording the sale doesn't have it, the sale isn't saved and the system shows the shop's cap.
Who can go above the cap
By default Give discounts above the limit is held by: Owner, Store Admin, Manager. There's no approver box for this cap at the counter, so the person with the permission has to record that sale themselves.
If the system says the discount is above the cap
Lower the bill discount to within the cap, then tap Confirm sale again.
If you really need a bigger discount, have someone with the discount permission sign in with their own account and record the sale.
If the shop often gives large discounts, ask the owner to change the cap in Store settings.
How the cap is worked out
-
It compares the bill discount with the total of all devices on the bill, before the discount.
-
A discount exactly at the cap is allowed.
-
The discount must always be less than the bill total.
-
The cap applies to the bill discount only. Changing a device's selling price on the bill isn't checked against it.
How the discount affects profit
The bill discount is split across the devices in proportion to their prices, so each device's revenue and true profit drop by its share. The discount prints as its own line on the receipt. See Sell several devices on one bill with a discount.
Changing the cap
The owner changes Maximum discount without approval on the Store settings page. Only the owner can change it. See Buying and selling defaults.
