See each model's profit as a share of sales, against the previous period of equal length and your shop's profit target. Needs the financial reports permission.

Who can do this:
Owner, Store Admin, Manager, Accountant, Auditor (role defaults; the owner can change them)

The Margin by model against the previous period report shows, for each model, the profit as a share of sales, whether it rose or fell from the previous period, and how far it is from the shop's target. It opens with View financial reports.

What each column means

  • Model and Product categories: the models sold in the chosen period.

  • Sold and Revenue: the number of devices and net sales of that model.

  • Net profit and Margin: true profit after every cost, and that profit as a percentage of revenue. Shown only to people with View cost and profit.

  • Previous margin and Change: the margin of the same model in the period of equal length just before, and the difference in percentage points.

  • Gap to target: the margin minus the required profit your shop set in the pricing settings. A negative value means below target.

The lowest margins come first, so the models to fix first are on top. A model with nothing to compare against leaves the change column empty.

How to use it

  1. Open Reports and choose Margin by model against the previous period.

  2. Pick the period and branch you want.

  3. Look for models whose Gap to target is negative or whose Change fell a lot.

  4. Open the True profit report per unit to see the per-device costs of that model.

Good to know

  • The report counts only devices that are sold and documents that were completed. Voided documents are left out.

  • A model with few devices sold has a very jumpy margin. Always read it together with the Sold column.

  • The target is a value your shop sets itself, and you can change it in the pricing settings.

  • This report is where the cards in Falling margin and models below target come from.

Frequently asked questions

How does margin in this report differ from profit in the true profit report?

It uses the same true profit figures, but this report groups them by model, shows them as a percentage of revenue, and compares them with the previous period and your shop's target.
