You are signed out after inactivity, after a long session, when this device is signed out remotely or after a password change. The message tells you which.

The system signs you out by itself so nobody else can use an account left open. The message you see back on the sign-in page tells you why.

Inactive for too long

Message: Your session timed out. Please sign in again

If you don't tap or type anything for longer than the limit, you are signed out. The limit depends on what your account can do.

Account Inactive for longer than
Accounts with sensitive permissions, such as owners, store admins, managers and accountants 30 minutes
Counter staff, such as cashiers, appraisers and technicians 120 minutes

Screens that refresh numbers in the background, such as the notification bell, don't count as activity. A person has to tap or type.

Signed in for too long

Same message as above. Even if you keep working, the system asks you to sign in again 12 hours after you signed in, to limit the damage if someone uses a device left open.

Someone signed this device out

Message: This device has been signed out. Please sign in again.

This happens when:

  • you tapped Sign out all other devices, or Sign out for this device, from another device

  • you changed your password on another device, or set a new one from the forgot-password page

  • the support team disabled your account

If you didn't do it, change your password straight away. See Signed-in devices and signing out everywhere.

You can sign in but can't get into the store

If after signing in you are taken to the new-store setup page instead of your store, your membership in the store has been suspended, perhaps because you were inactive for a long time or an admin suspended you. Don't create a new store; contact the store owner. See Inactive staff accounts are suspended.

"This page has expired"

If you leave a form open for a long time and then submit it, you may see This page has expired or a box asking you to reload. Reload the page and try again. If you land on the sign-in page, your session timed out. Anything typed into the form but not saved is not kept.

Frequently asked questions

Why are owners signed out sooner than cashiers?

Accounts with sensitive permissions, such as owners and managers, time out sooner when inactive, because someone using a device they left open could do more damage.
