When you take a device in, the Valuation panel has a Profit in advance section to read before you pay. It says what profit you're likely to make at this price, what is left if things go badly, how many days it should take to sell and which channel nets the most. Every number carries its confidence and the amount of data behind it.
Reading the three boxes
-
Expected profit: Selling at the expected selling price, in the number of days your shop usually takes, after the purchase price, the expected repair, fees and holding cost
-
Worst case: Selling at the low end of the price range, lowered a little more as a margin for error, and as slowly as your shop's data has ever shown. If this box is negative, buying at this price could really lose money
-
Best case: Selling at the high end of the price range and as fast as your shop has done it
If you haven't entered a purchase price yet, the system uses Safe Buy and labels it If bought at Safe Buy :v. Once you enter the real price the numbers change at once.
Days to sell, counting what is still unsold
The system looks at how long devices already sold took, and counts devices of the same model still in stock as "not sold for at least as long as their age". That way the numbers don't look faster than they are because the devices that didn't sell were forgotten. With little data it's marked as an estimate.
Where the worst case comes from
Tap Why this price to read it in plain words, step by step: from the expected selling price, through each cost, to Safe Buy. There's a three-case table with the real numbers, and the highest purchase price that still breaks even even at the lowest selling price. The margin for error grows when this model's price has been falling faster than normal lately, or when it's selling more slowly, and it has a cap. If there are too few sales to read a trend, the system says so and uses only the base margin.
The channel with the best net
The system compares selling in store, through the marketplaces your shop has switched on, and selling to a dealer. It uses the fees your shop set on the Sales channel page and never guesses a platform's rate. Channels that aren't open yet say Not yet available and show no number.
If it can't value yet
When there isn't enough price data for this model, the panel says Cannot value yet, because there is not enough price data for this model with what you can do about it. See Why the system says there isn't enough data. The system doesn't guess a number.
