Why buying needs the seller's ID number

Awaiting legal review

This document describes how the system actually works and is being reviewed by legal counsel. The wording may change before full launch.

Second-hand dealers must record what they bought and from whom, so each purchase or trade-in needs a seller with a national ID or tax ID before it is confirmed.

Who can do this:
Owner, Store Admin, Manager, Cashier, Appraiser (role defaults; the owner can change them)

Every time you buy or take a trade-in, the system asks for a seller with a national ID number, or a tax ID for a company. Without one, it won't confirm the transaction.

Why the seller's ID is needed

Second-hand dealers in Thailand must keep a record of what they bought and from whom, under the Act on the control of auctions and second-hand trading. Recording the seller's identity also protects the store if a problem comes up later, for example if someone reports that a device you bought was lost: the store has evidence of whom it bought from and that it checked.

Exactly which details the law requires and how long they must be kept is being reviewed by legal counsel. The system will be adjusted to the outcome.

What the system checks when you buy

  • The seller must be a customer with a national ID number, or a tax ID for a company.

  • Otherwise you see A seller with a national ID number or tax ID is required.

  • If further legal rules apply to the store, such as verifying identity first or an unexpired document, the system lists what is missing at the same time.

  • A customer set to Do not transact can't be bought from; see Customer risk levels and blocking.

Record the seller when buying

  1. Under 3. Seller on the receive screen, search by the full national ID number or the phone number.

  2. If not found, tap No customer found — add a new customer and enter the national ID number.

  3. Tell the customer how their data is used and tick Customer consents to the collection and use of their data for transactions (required).

  4. Tap Save customer and carry on with the purchase.

The detailed steps are in Record the seller and their national ID.

The purchase voucher

The printed purchase voucher has a statement for the seller to confirm they own the item, signature lines for the seller and the buyer, and the seller's ID number partly hidden. See Purchase vouchers and the ownership declaration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn off the seller ID requirement?

No. The system requires the seller's ID and there is no setting to switch it off, because recording the seller's identity is a duty of second-hand dealers.
